(Linux/Wine) Rayman 2 - Can't install mods "Could not find the file"

I decided to try and use Rayman Control Panel to mod Rayman 2: The Great Escape on PC using my Steam Deck. After I managed to overcome the first snag regarding permissions, and went ahead to find mods I want to install through the app (such as the Pirate Head remover and texture mods) and click on the Apply button, I came to another snag regarding the following:

An error occured when applying the mods. Not all changes were applied and some data might have been lost. Make sure to not have any files from the game open while applying mods.

Error message: Could not find the file 'C:\users\steamuser\Local\Temp\RCP_Metro\196045534'.

It then gives up and no mods are installed. I've also tried installing from file with the same result as mentioned above.

It seems it can't find this particular file (and possibly other files), but I can never figure out why and how to solve it myself. I've tried using different Wine versions, including regular Wine, Proton GE 10-32 and Proton Experimental, the latter two running via Steam. All with no avail.

If anyone have experienced this and have found solutions, I'd love to know.

Having the same issue here, can't install Fixed Assets nor Uncompressed PS4 Assets mods for Rayman Legends. Using also Proton GE 10-32, but on my desktop pc running CachyOS
