🌱 Student‑led garden, club, and activities for real sustainability
Greenroots Collective is a student‑led organization founded in October 2024 by Mazen Choumari to make our school greener, more sustainable, and more exciting for everyone. There was a clear gap between what was said about sustainability and what actually happened in school spaces, so the goal became turning those spaces into lively gardens and activities where students can plant, explore nature, and learn through real, hands‑on work.
Every activity and club session is designed to teach responsibility, creativity, teamwork, and practical skills while building real respect for nature.
Our mission is to create green spaces and structured activities where students learn about sustainability through engaging, hands‑on experiences that inspire awareness and action.
Greenroots Collective directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 13 - Climate Action: Increasing green spaces on campus helps improve air quality, regulate temperatures, and build climate awareness among students.
- SDG 4 - Quality Education: Through our club and garden sessions, students get interactive learning that connects sustainability, agriculture, and environmental responsibility with real life.
Establish Greenroots Collective as a trusted and transformative student club running across the whole school, engaging students and staff in meaningful environmental action. Beyond our own campus, the aim is to inspire and support other schools, starting with Globeducate and then beyond, to launch their own versions of this model.
- A management team that handles vision, structure, program design, and communication.
- An operations team that runs weekly club sessions, prepares materials, and takes care of the garden space.
- Members and participants from across the school who join activities, help in the garden, and grow into future leaders of the initiative.
Greenroots specializes in designing and running functional, educational school garden projects that act as living classrooms and activity hubs, not just decoration.
The Greenroots model is being documented so other schools can:
- Understand the philosophy, structure, and rhythm behind the garden and club.
- Recreate the system with clear roles, timetables, and activity templates.
- Adapt it to their own context while keeping the core ideas of respect, responsibility, and student leadership.
